Earth Day is coming up on April 22nd 2018 and I thought it would be a great excuse to celebrate a few simple changes that we can all make that have a positive impact on our environment. Over the next 20 days I will be featuring just 20 things that we can do to lower our eco-footprint.
Humans are creatures of habit. It takes us weeks, if not months, for us to develop a new healthy habit. For this reason, we are best changing one habit at a time. Start with the one thing that resonates with you. Once you have that habit mastered – then you can move onto the next one. If we change too many things at a time we are just setting ourselves up for failure.
I know that I personally find myself getting discouraged when I watch disposable cup after disposable cup walk down the street. When I have made an effort to not use one in months. And yes that is what I see – not the people - but the disposable cups walking down the street. But we need to remember that every small act that we are able to make to reduce our waste does makes a difference.
If you get a coffee to go every morning, in a disposable cup, that is over 300 disposable cups that are made for you – you use them once and they are now here for years to come. Instead, if you take your own mug to get your coffee that is over 300 cups that don’t have to be made and disposed of each year. One simple act can definitely make a difference.
Please don’t try everything at once. Just slowly change your habits and try to replace your everyday items with more eco-friendly options when it is time to replace your used up products.
Let’s make everyday Earth Day.
